Redesign Your Smile with Lip Repositioning

If you are unhappy with your smile, the problem could stem from something other than your teeth. Your smile is composed of a balanced relationship between your lips, gums, and teeth. When you evaluate your smile in the mirror or in photos, think carefully about that balance.

If your smile appears exaggerated or severe, even as you try to relax, you may want to discuss lip repositioning (Gummy Tuck™) with your periodontist. The procedure is often recommended to create a less drastic, more natural smile for both men and women.

With a minimally invasive (conservative) surgical procedure known as lip repositioning, your periodontist can prevent the upper lip from rising too high when you smile.

Though most would agree that a big, beautiful smile is attractive and desirable, millions of patients struggle to hide their “gummy” smile. Unfortunately, without professional help, that struggle can be in vain. The constant feeling of self-consciousness or embarrassment can lead you to conceal your smile with your hands or attempt to avoid smiling altogether. It can make social situations uncomfortable and photo opportunities unpleasant.

With a minimally invasive (conservative) surgical procedure known as lip repositioning, our board certified periodontist, Dr. Edward Gottesman, DDS, can prevent the upper lip from rising too high when you smile. Now, instead of revealing an excessive amount of gum tissue, the lip can fall naturally to reveal a reasonable balance of teeth and gums.

In an amazingly simple, 45 minute procedure, and with the help of local anesthetics, a small amount of tissue will need to be removed from the underside of the top lip. A few sutures are required to stabilize the lip into its new position, and the area will be allowed to heal. Most patients report no discomfort during the procedure, and only minimal discomfort following the appointment. Typically, ibuprofen or another non-steriodal pain and inflammation reliever will be recommended as needed.

After a brief, one week healing period most patients will find that they can speak and smile comfortably. With access to such an easy and life-changing procedure, who wouldn’t want to improve their smile?

To find out how this subtle procedure can produce the dramatic results that you desire, contact Dr. Edward Gottesman, DDS,  at 212-756-8890 for an appointment today.
