Treatments Using Dental Implants

Dental implant bridge in New York, NY.When it comes to restoring missing teeth here in the New York and Manhattan areas, many patients feel drawn to treatment with dental implants. The reason for this is the fact that dental implants provide the best treatment for missing teeth in terms of comfort, stability, and reliability. However, it seems like some patients fail to even ask about dental implants out of the fear that this treatment cannot provide for their needs. Today, Dr. Susan Karabin and Dr. Edward Gottesman are blogging from their office to say that this isn’t true at all. We encourage you to read on to learn more about dental implants and the types of treatments we can provide using them.

Finding an Implant Treatment that Fills Your Needs

No matter how many missing teeth you may be suffering from, we have a treatment using dental implants that can restore function and beauty to your smile. Some of the treatments we provide using dental implants include:

  • Single Tooth Restorations: For patients who are missing only one tooth, we can perform a single tooth restoration. This procedure has one implant fixture placed in the empty spot left behind by the missing tooth. As the fixture heals, a process called osseointegration works to fuse it to your jawbone, giving your jaw structure full control of the implant as if it were a natural tooth. Once this process is finished, an abutment and porcelain crown will be attached to the implant fixture, completing the restoration.
  • Multiple Teeth Restorations: For patients who are suffering from multiple missing teeth, we can still use single tooth restorations to replace each missing tooth. However, these patients may prefer an implant-supported dental bridge if they are missing three or more teeth that all border each other. For this procedure, at least two implant fixtures are placed, one for the first and one for the last tooth in the row. Once each is successfully osseointegrated, an abutment will be attached to each fixture and the dental bridge connected, completing the restoration.
  • Full Arch Restorations: For patients who are missing a full arch of teeth, it can still be possible to restore each missing tooth with its own implant and restoration. However, these patients may want to consider treatment with an implant-supported overdenture instead. For this procedure, four to six implant fixtures are placed along the arch. Once in place and each has osseointegrated, an abutment will be attached to each fixture and the overdenture connected, completing the restoration.
